Meeting Minutes:
March 27th City Government Night:

Tom Rougeaux called the meeting to order.

Dick Rossberg chaired the meeting and acted as MC for our invited guests City Manager, LeRoy Jackson and Director of Parks and Recreation, Gene Barnett.

Mr. Jackson gave an overview of how the city derives its income from various inflows of tax dollars. The number one income producing tax being Sales Tax, followed by Utility Taxes and Property Taxes. Mr. Jackson stressed that the City's aim is to continue to keep Torrance a balanced city through measured growth. Over the last year the city has added over 400 housing units, 12,000sq Feet of commercial space and 60,000 sq feet of office space. Torrance is now the home of two new auto dealerships helping to increase the City's Sales Tax revenue.

Mr. Jackson mentioned improvements such as the repaving of the streets in the Riviera area as an example of our tax dollars at work.
Gene Barnett stated that the Parks and Recreation Departments energy and resources are focused on services to youth. The department is trying to implement more after school programs. (Richardson Middle School)

Some of the capital projects completed by the city include the NEW INDOOR SPORTS CENTER at Wilson Park and the recent paving of Ocean Ave. and the parking lot at Riviera Little League.

A brief question and answer period followed our guests presentations. A Sportsman's thank you to Dick Rossberg for a great meeting and The Torrance Bakery for donating the reception CAKE!
