Presidents Message

First of all, I want to thank Chris Collignon for chairing our first meeting of the year. As fate would have it both Robin and I were out of town and unable to run the meeting. From what I heard, the meeting went smoothly and was well attended. I also want to thank Robin for covering the second meeting for me.

We have some exciting events coming up in this month, so be sure to mark your calendars and plan to participate. First of all, we have the Manhattan Beach Fair that is our largest fund-raiser of the year. Jeff Wells is doing a super job planning the event and is getting great support from his team members. We look forward to his report at the next meeting on October 14. Ron Perez is putting together the details for our Membership dinner night on October 28. Last year's event was a great success and we have Ron to thank for putting together a program that attracted several new members. I expect this year to be even better. At the last meeting, Ron passed out materials to use to invite prospective members. Please try to invite someone you know. They don't have to join, but they can learn more about the club (and enjoy a free meal with a fun bunch of guys!).

Don Marousek is busy planning the annual fall golf outing at Carlton Oaks. Be sure to talk to him to find out more. He will update the club at the next meeting.

Finally, I failed to mention in my last message that this is the club's 50th anniversary. According to our records, the club was officially organized on October 6, 1949. The board members have already begun discussions on how to best recognize this special year. We want your input so please bring your ideas to any of the officers or board members. It will be an agenda item on Wednesday's meeting, so come prepared!

Meeting minutes 9/9/98

Called to order at 8:15. After the opening remarks, the nominees for BOD were proposed and accepted on voice vote. Jeff Wells then provided a detailed update on the upcoming Manhattan Beach Fair. A sign-up sheet was passed around. The next order of business was the presentation of the annual budget. This elicited some discussion on some of the detailed

allocations of monies (ed: Not anywhere near as heated as passed years..I'm told). Budget was proposed and accepted on voice vote. Don Marousek provided extensive details regarding the planned Golf Outing scheduled in November..... See separate item. Thank you notes from Troop 138 (Pancake Breakfast) and Jennifer Pucher (past scholarship receipient) were read. Keith Musick presented the club with a thank you plaque from the Riviera Little League for our fund raising efforts. Mention was made that the club is entering its 50th year and that members should consider ways of marking this milestone. Ideas would solicited at a future meeting.

Meeting minutes 9/23/98

Thanks to Tom Rougeaux for organizing the dinner, and to Robin Sawyer for making sure it all got there. Ed McClure provide an update on the Christmas Dinner options. After much discussion it was decided that several locations be solicited and costs presented at a future meeting so that a final site could be selected by member vote. Jon Stott provided an update on the MB Fair preparations. Don Marousek provided details on the options for the Golf outing. Ron Perez handed out a new club membership/recruiting brochure, in preparation for Membership Night 10/28. Thanks go to Geoff Graue for preparing the brochure.
